Small things are big things

As a parent to a special needs baby - you put in HOURS and hours of work to help encourage developmental growth. It isn’t easy by any stretch of the imagination. But, when you see a wall come down and progress is made - nothing else matters. Emmy is almost 2 - 17 months adjusted. But, she’s been so sick the majority of her life that she’s just starting to do “normal baby things”. We celebrate them ALL. She has trauma associated with both her mouth and arms. OT has helped her grow tolerable to her arms and hands being touched. Today, she even voluntarily held fabric in her hand and brought it to her mouth. We always think that babies put everything in their mouths and it’s not until an oral aversion and not eating by mouth that you learn to LOVE seeing them do this! Today I cried because she played with fabric. Today I cried because she took a nap… on her belly… on the floor… and didn’t hate it #advocatelikeamother #micropreemie #iugr #iugrbaby #25weeker #ROP #nystagmus #bronchopulmonarydysplasia #chroniclungdisease #congenitallymphaticmalformation #tracheomalacia #epilepsy #gjtube #tubie #tpn #feedingintolerance #medicallycomplex #trachbaby #ventbaby #medicalmama #trach #physicaltherapy #occupationaltherapy #speechtherapy #specialneedsbaby #specialneedsmama #specialnotbroken
