I wish I could go back in time to prepare us for how the next 4 years would unfold. I’d tell them that life would get hard and then, it would get even harder. They would be hard pressed to believe how vastly different they’d find themselves in the not so distant future. Things that filled their days would be replaced with super-adulting and more tears and fears than ever imagined possible. Those cracks in their foundation started off minor but would eventually become more severe and with unpredictable/devastating outcomes. They’d be encouraged to get acquainted with disappointment and to grab tightly onto the pieces of ourselves that make us who we are. You get lost when you transition into parenthood. You become even more disconnected from who you are when parenthood changes to being a parent to a medically complex child.
